Disappearing from one location and reappearing in another. There are several ways this can be managed, from dematerialization/rematerialization, wormholes, bending space, magic, psychic power/jaunting, or as a kind of superpower. There is also the question of whether the effect is inherent to some manner of device or an individual; if the former, expect it to break down at plot-critical moments. With very few exceptions (The Tomorrow People (1973), Stargate SG-1), such devices are capable only of short-range transport on a galactic scale. You still need a “Cool Starship” to get between stars.
