The Stone-backs were reptiles from the asteroid called Algol. The creatures lived in subterranean glass or crystal houses. They captured prey by curling up into their shells and camouflaging themselves as rocks. They spoke a primitive language. One of the Stone-Backs, Gluck, could speak English. Their religion was based on the worship of a giant turtle god. The Stone-backs kidnap a stranded Earthman, Mr. Sadler, looking for his missing son. The aliens take Sadler before their god, who turns out to be Mr. Sadler’s son Steve Sadler in an oddly-shaped space suit. With the help of an unnamed space marine who thought Mr. Sadler was a Martian spy, the Earthmen escape.
