Bill Reed came down with a type of infantile paralysis as a child. He underwent an intense physical regimen which strengthened his upper body to Herculean levels. His legs were still weak, so he spent most of the time in a wheelchair. He’s despondent and unable to pursue a romance with Bonnie, a woman who obviously cares deeply for him. Reed researches winged flight, finally unlocking the secret. By practicing jumping and landing, his legs are strengthened to that of a normal man’s levels. He becomes the high-flying patriotic War Eagle. In the year 1942, he starts taking on criminals and Nazis. He has one notable foe, the Wrench.
