War Bird was originally an ace American mail pilot named Tom Sharp. Seeking out new adventures, he enlisted in the flying forces of the Orient, followed by the Spanish Air Force. He earned his nickname War Bird from his daring and courageous flying and fighting abilities. When the Spanish War ended, War Bird enlisted with the French Flying Corps and became Captain of the Eagle Squadron. In Eagle Squadron, he fought against the Germanic “Sermians”, and in particular their aces Baron Bruht and Count Manfred.
