Playboy Ray Cardell was looking through his telescope one evening when he was suddenly struck by an unknown beam of energy. Cardell gains X-ray vision and the ability to paralyze and burn people with eye beams. He believed his new powers will “strike terror into the hearts of the most hardened criminals,” so Cardell becomes the crime fighter Master Key. His origin was later changed. In the second version, the source of his powers was an explosion caused by a short circuit. Note: The character was later re-printed and re-named as Detective Patrick Carlyle.
