When a fish bearing a “golden tablet”, a map on its skin, is caught and presented to a well known museum, one man, a daring adventurer and famous inventor, determines to put his under-sea inventions to the supreme test. Argo flies to the general location in the arctic wastes indicated by the map, and then sets out on skis to cover the remaining ground, encountering wolves, polar bears, and musk oxen. When he reaches an inland sea, he dons special scuba gear with electronic propulsion, dives down, fights off barracuda and monster crawfish, and approaches the undersea city of Tremuda “with its severe architecture and myriad current vanes”. Many adventures follow.
