At a seaside, high stakes gambling resort, Zoro the Mystery Man, an international adventurer and a silent observer of the roulette, talks a beautiful, distraught woman, who had just lost her fortune, away from a cliff. He’s sure the wheel is dishonest, and he promises to help. Zoro is immediately beset by a robed and hooded man with a gun. A fight ensues, Zoro wins, killing his attacker, identified by the young woman’s fiance as being in the employ of the young woman’s father’s business partner. No one notices the dead body. Zoro discovers the mechanism rigging the roulette, tampers with it, and breaks the house bank. The owner of the casino, the previously mentioned business partner, has Zoro held at gunpoint. Zoro kills the henchman with a trick cigarette gun. Zoro eventually deals with the rest of crooks and turns over the casino to the young woman, vowing to find adventure elsewhere. Zoro was extremely athletic and a master of personal combat, willing to kill his enemies. Though he did not carry a gun, he frequently disarmed his enemies and took their weapons. He did carry a cane with a concealed sword. Although he never smoked, he also carried what appeared to be cigarettes, but which were actually small tongue-triggered guns. He was usually accompanied by his loyal and ferocious pet cheetah, which he called Cheetah. He was considered dashing and handsome by women, and based on his resources, it is likely that he was wealthy. “Velvet smooth of manner… diamond keen of wit… steel-strong of body… Zoro, the Mystery Man, strolls nonchalantly through life, seeking dangerous adventure wherever he can find it, overthrowing evil wherever it exists, and always keeping his identity a baffling, mysterious secret.” In one story, he saved the Dali Lama.
