Zacto is a member of an unnamed alien race of bulbous, intelligent beings. Captain Tom Hardy of the U.N. Guard Patrol commands U.N. Patrol Ship 67. An uneventful trip is interrupted when a spherical craft approaches his ship. The craft sends out “tentacle beams.” Hardy orders the crew to return fire, including a “T-ray”, yet the alien craft is unaffected. The sphere sends out more tentacles. After a time, the ship leaves. Hardy considers the retreat a victory. Inside the spherical craft, sphere-shaped, tentacled aliens discuss the information they successfully gathered on the Earthlings.
