X was a female resistance fighter and spy who opposed the Axis powers in France during its occupation by the Nazis in World War II. In her first mission, she disguised herself as a male Nazi and ordered French prisoners about to be executed on a firing line let go. She left an “X” scrawled on a wall to announce her successful mission. When Bob Gray of the New York Globe entered Nazi headquarters for a story, he met X disguised as another reporter. She steals the plans for the Nazi’s Spring offensive. X escaped, and Gray followed her into a building, where he almost lost his life in exchange for a kiss.
