Ambrose Ampere was a simple hod-carrier (a worker who carried supplies to bricklayers, stonemasons, etc.). In his off-hours, he was Voltage, Man of Lightning. As a child, while in his father’s lab, he was accidentally doused in prussic acid just as he absorbed the electric shock of a live wire. This resulted in him gaining the ability to hurl lightning bolts from his fingers, and fly as fast as Mercury. With “Comics” McCormick’s help, he was able to catch dastardly black marketeers.
