Justin Blanchard, known as Tintin, the little Parisian, “the kid from Paris, the intrepid and pleasant newsboy,” is the hero of adventure and science fiction novels published beginning in 1911. Tintin has a little sister, Yvonne, who accompanies him on his adventures. They are orphans. He is aided by a scientist, an army captain, and friends of his own age. In “Adventurers of the Sky – Extraordinary Journeys of a Little Parisian in the Stratosphere, the Moon and the Planets”, thanks to the “Bolide”, a shell-shaped spacecraft powered by two atomic hydrogen gas reactors built by the French astronomer Germain Landry, Tintin, Professor Saint-Marc, the English reporter Timmy-Ropp of the Daily Mail, and the Captain Rhineff, a secret agent of the Reichswehr, fly to the Moon and then reach the planet Mars. On Venus, Tintin finds descendants of the Greek gods reigning over a race of giant cyclops. On Mars, he meets a race of small men served by giant robots, the Slavoks. These will eventually rebel, forcing the Earthlings to flee to Jupiter. Tintin also travels in time: going back five thousand years, and in the future he discovers that apes have replaced men, thus prefiguring Pierre Boulle ‘s novel The Planet of the Apes. Meanwhile on Earth, Yvonne, Tintin’s sister, helps Germain Landry find the capital that will allow him to build a second Bolide, with the help of which, accompanied by the explorer Lonvalet, the aviator Roland Davoz, and young Jean de Requirec, she goes in search of her brother. The series therefore narrates the parallel sagas of the two vessels and the two crews.
