Lieut. Comm. Bob Steel was the commander of the submarine R-14, nicknamed the “Steel Shark”. Lt. Steel had learned that disguised Nazis were carrying explosives through the Atlantic entrance to the Panama Canal. They learned that a German U-boat they battled was only carrying oil., and was a decoy. The saboteurs were already on their way to the canal. Despite damage, the Steel Shark pursued the Nazi vessel. At the harbor, Lt. Steel finds a mystery ship in port. Although it turns out to be the Nazi ship, the ship’s crew was unaware of its suicide mission. Only the captain knew. Steel stopped the Nazis by throwing a mariner spike through their captain’s hand, trapping him until the authorities could arrive.
