Captain Simmons and Lieutenant Roy in the U.N. Guard Patrol Ship No. 88 are contacted by Space-Admiral Jennings to check out an object believed to be a meteorite of considerable size that just entered their region 141-3-6. They discover an enormous pock-marked meteorite headed toward the Earth at 25,000 miles-per-hour. Simmons lands their rocket on the meteorite. They receive another message from the Admiral. Earth is being evacuated in anticipation of the meteorite’s impact. This impact is calculated at less than 5 days. One of the crew of Simmon’s ship suggests blowing it up. Simmons has another idea he thinks more plausible. Calling Space-Admiral Jennings once more, he requests every patrol ship with “super-rocket auxiliaries” be sent to the meteorite. Under Simmons’s direction, the patrol ships are nosed into the craters on the meteorite, managing to change its and safely miss Earth. It crashes into the Sun and is burnt to a cinder. Captain Roland Simmons is immortalized on a monument of U.N. Space Patrol heroes to commemorate the event.
