Riverman was a undersea monster who attacked and killed workers on the South River Tunnel because he felt they were invading his territory. The F.B.I. sent Plastic Man to investigate why the workers were disappearing, and his sidekick Woozy Winks followed him on the job. Woozy volunteered to work underwater in order to impress Lorraine Miller, the engineer in charge of the project. Riverman tried to attack Woozy, but Plas protected Woozy while he daydreamed about Miss Miller. Plastic Man realized that Riverman was invincible in his element, so he attempted to bring the creature onto land. Riverman escaped, however, and Plastic Man and Woozy returned to the surface. Riverman then tried to destroy the tunnel itself, instead of taking workers out one at a time. He surfaced and killed a worker, to wear his clothes as a disguise. Plastic Man wasn’t fooled, and the two fought again. Riverman tried to blow up the tunnel using dynamite during their confrontation, but was foiled by Plastic Man. Plastic Man asked the villain why he hated surface dwellers so much, and Riverman explained that many years ago, because his people were born with gills, the Fish-Men were banished from the land and forced to live in the sea. He was the last of his people, living alone and isolated, until the surface dwellers invaded his domain to build the tunnel. During the explanation, he suffocated, due to being away from the water for too long. With the threat of the Riverman over, Miss Miller orders the men back to work, and says she can’t wait to tell her husband about it all, much to the chagrin of Woozy, who didn’t know she was married.
