Rex Dexter

In 1939, Montague Dexter built a rocket ship for that year’s World Fair. To demonstrate that it worked, he and his wife flew it to Mars, where it unfortunately crash-landed. They spent the next sixty one years repairing the ship, by which point they were far too old to handle the rigors of space travel. Instead, their young and fit son, Rex Dexter, piloted the ship to Earth. In the year 2000, Earth was much more advanced then the world his parents left behind. Before Dexter could adjust, however, the United States came under attack from a European mad scientist. The country, already reduced to a radioactive wasteland during a world war occurring in the 1950s, needed Dexter’s help to repel the invasion. Dexter became Earth’s protector, from both alien and terrestrial menaces. Dexter also started a romantic relationship with Cynde, a girl he rescued from space pirates. A little over a year later, a monster Dexter brought from another planet escaped, leaving mass destruction in its wake. Although Dexter managed to kill the creature, the people of Earth banished Dexter. Cynde joined him in exile. The pair spent the next few months in space, flying from planet to planet, stopping any menaces they found along the way. Eventually, Dexter returned to Earth when it was attacked by aliens, and he became their champion again.
