The woman who would become Red Ann was happily married to a man named Bart, a man she had chosen over her friend Trent, who also loved her. As an act of concession, Trent paid for their travel to their honeymoon. Ann’s husband was killed before her eyes by gangsters, working for the master criminal known as the Voice. Ann swore to kill the Voice in revenge. Turning her back on her friends and family, including Trent, she taught herself to shoot and learned the ways of the underworld, becoming a masked vigilante. As a crime-fighter, Red Ann outdid the Black Terror and Tim, beating them to the punch several times against the Voice’s men. Along with reporter Dick Reagan, the Black Terror finally confronted her, and convinced her to tell them her origin. They all joined together to attack the Voice’s headquarters, an abandoned mansion. Reagan had become strongly attracted to Ann, who appreciated his attentions, but decided the battle was too dangerous for him and knocked him out. The Voice trapped the Black Terror and Tim in “Plasto-Spheres.” Red Ann came to their rescue, but the Voice escaped before she could fight him. When they caught up with the Voice, they found he was none other than Trent, who had killed Bart as he had killed anyone else who got in his way. Red Ann found she could not bring herself to kill her old friend, and turned her back on crime-fighting, where Reagan was more than happy to accompany her.
