After conquering and consuming all the civilizations in their neighborhood, Queen Myrza leads the people of the city Palmoora, on a planet orbiting the star Deneb, into our Solar System to hunt living human beings, whose life force is a sufficient fuel source for their “Life-dynamos”. As they pass Pluto and Neptune, the Palmoorians emit a Sleep Ray which incapacitates all it reaches. Captain Dave Kenton of the Star Patrol, a scout, picks up distress calls on his “wristibeamer” at the same time that Mars launches a fleet against the Palmoorians, but the latter’s superior technology destroys their ships. When Kenton discovers the enemy has built a new city on Jupiter, he’s attacked by soldiers. After putting up a fight, he’s captured and taken before Queen Myrza, who tells him that “you people of Earth will be that fuel!” as another captive in a “life-vault bed begins to shrink!” Kenton pretends to betray Earth and join Queen Myrza, learning the jewel she wears protects her from the Sleep Ray. He’s locked in a lab, where he builds a machine to destroy the jewels, discovering after the fact that the Sleep Ray is deadly to Queen Myrza and the Palmoorians.
