Toni Corso buys a villa in Italy for half the price of its worth. At the men’s club that night, he brags about his purchase. Offhandedly, Professor Manelli tells Corso a story about a villa. A scientist by the name of Gino once bought a villa, a place to conduct experiments on a beam without interference. Several weeks later, the scientist called the Professor, shaken. His beam activated something evil. They turned on the beam together. Foggy forms appeared. They hurriedly turned off the beam, and the “accumulation of wickedness” associated with the house dissipated. The Professor warned Gino to discontinue his experiments forever, else “these essences of human wrong lurk awaiting activation, awaiting the current or radiation that will give them being!” Corso finds the story improbable and wants proof. Manelli provides the address of the haunted villa. It is the villa Corso purchased.
