Perry Chase was the son of the Daily Express’s publisher, who begged his father for a chance to be a reporter. His father considered his son cowardly and unintelligent, and told him to continue covering high society’s doings because “only real men can be reporters.” Unbeknownst to his father, Perry fought crime and defended the first amendment as the Press Guardian (originally “the Falcon”). He was aided by his valet Baldwin, who drove the car and piloted their bi-plane, and his secretary Cynthia Blake. He seemed to be bulletproof. In his first appearance, he was referred to by both “the Falcon” and “the Press Guardian”. As of his second appearance (and for all other appearances after that), the “Falcon” name was not used.
