Lilliputians are humanoid characters whose main characteristic is that they are very, very small. Like, the size of a bottle. Or the size of your thumb. Or the size of an ant. “Little People” may be small, but they are at least human-sized. Lilliputians are too small: you just can’t interact with the world in a normal capacity at that scale. Every insect is a threat, every step up a staircase is a colossal climb, and no big person ever watches where they’re stepping. Life for these guys is usually pretty tough, but they might get some levity if there’s enough of them to make up a “Mouse World”. The most comfortable version is when the Lilliputians are “Humanoid Aliens” whose size only becomes apparent once they start interacting with the larger extraterrestrials. “Lilliputian Warriors” is a subtrope, for when these guys kick ass despite fitting in the palm of a hand. Contrast “Our Giants Are Bigger”, to whom we are the Lilliputians. Certain members of “The Fair Folk” and “House Fey” may double as Liliputians, but those have their own pages. Also, fairies and pixies are often Lilliputian-sized, but they usually have wings that make their life way easier. Note that regular-sized people who shrink down and then revert to normal size fall under “Incredible Shrinking Man”; this trope is for naturally small humanoids.
