Years later, Billy received an urgent letter from a dying Sarah Primm, revealing the truth and giving him a half a locket, the other half of which his sister possessed. Billy told his friend, Freddy Freeman. As Captain Marvel and Captain Marvel Jr., the two began looking for a girl with a broken locket using Billy’s radio quiz show. They find her just as she is being kidnapped, save her, and as Billy and Freddy inform her of her true identity. When the kidnappers awaken, they gag both of the boys. Mary accidentally says “Shazam!” and transforms, defeating the crooks and saving the boys. She’s christened “Mary Marvel.” Mary Marvel gets her powers from Selena (grace), Hippolyta (strength), Ariadne (skill), Zephyrus (speed), Aurora (beauty), Minerva (wisdom).
