The Lizard was a monstrous murderer who appeared as a walking lizard, could scale walls, and carried a trained Gila monster, the “most deadly of all reptiles,” with which he assassinated his victims. The Lizard went after Mrs. Van Vernon, a rich property owner and illegal jewel fence. He sent his Gila monster to bite Van Vernon. The Raven was alerted to this crime when Van Vernon called the police just before succumbing to the Gila monster’s attack. The police arrived at the penthouse apartment but found it had no stairs and an inoperative private elevator, previously shut down by the Lizard. Dan Dartin changes into his Raven costume and climbs the elevator shaft. Inside, the Raven confronts the Lizard, who flees. Lola says the Lizard did not find the jewels he expected and will probably search for them in the Beekman Building safe. After the Raven leaves, the Lizard doubles back and kidnaps Lola. At the Beekman Building, the Lizard holds Lola hostage, forcing the Raven to open the safe for him. However, when the police arrive, the Lizard jumps out of the window with Lola. While trying to evade the Raven in midair, the Lizard is bitten by his own Gila monster, and falls to his death. The Raven catches Lola. Note: It was not revealed whether the Lizard was wearing a costume, or whether this was his natural appearance.
