Sheila Sorrell was a singer at the Red Angel nightclub. Even though she had a voice like a frog, the singer’s good looks would bring in droves of men, hanging on her every move, mesmerized by her beauty. However, she could not get what she really wanted, to become an opera singer. She turned all her male admirers down because none could fulfill her dream. She showed affection for Plastic Man until he told her the truth about her voice. After rejecting scientist Professor Carlon, he decided to teach Sheila a lesson. He created a formula that would turn her body to stone, just like her heart. However, unlike the professor’s test subject, his cat, Sheila became living stone instead of a statue. In her new form, Sheila tried to kill Olga Bagoni and Louis Long of the Samala Opera Company for turning her down, as well as a policeman outside the First National Bank, and nearly robbed the bank before Plastic Man intervened. Plastic Man was able to force feed her an antidote to the professor’s formula, turning her back to normal, with no memory of being Granite Lady. The antidote doesn’t cure her heart of granite. As the Granite Lady, her body possessed the strength and density of stone, making it virtually indestructible, deadly, and bullet proof. She may have had some form of super strength.
