The “Face in the Clouds” were really two blimps controlled by a mobster in Florida. One blimp projected a monster’s face on the clouds and a bellowing loudspeaker would threaten the people below. The second blimp would drift over the highways and lower a powerful magnet over cars, lifting them up from the ground and bring them to the gangster’s hideout. The Comet literally put a hole in the scheme, by piercing the blimps with his “eye beams.”
