Cyanide Cindy was a criminal with a mile-long police record who entered a beauty contest put on by Kandle’s Beauty Lotion (also spelled Kindle’s at certain points in the story). She tried to rig the contest and get the 10,000 dollar prize by threatening the other contestants at gun point to make themselves look as unattractive as possible. In addition, she also threatened the judges, but was caught in the act by Midnight, who recognized her as a criminal. She then tried with the assistance of her lackey Lefty to kidnap Sniffer, an associate of Midnight who was also a pageant judge, but was once again foiled by Midnight. Sniffer mentions that he was separated from Mr. Kandle, the owner of Kandle’s Beauty Lotion, during the attempted kidnapping. They find the man’s body hidden in the bushes and suspect both Mrs. Kindle and Cyanide Cindy of being the culprits. However, the true culprit was, in fact, Perkins, an employee at Kandle’s Beauty Lotion, who developed the formula for the lotion but received no credit or profits from Mr. Kandle and wanted revenge. He tried to frame Cyanide Cindy, knowing as a criminal she would automatically be a prime suspect for the crime.
