Captain Valiant

Bruce Barton is an actor, an understudy for the lead role of Captain Valiant in the Broadway play “Comic Follies” at the Liberty Theater. Barton accompanied the play’s producer to the bank to withdraw money for payroll. They’re robbed by three armed criminals. Barton, still in his Captain Valiant costume, attempted to fight off the crooks but was overwhelmed. That night, Barton filled in for Martin, the lead actor, who was drunk and could not perform. Barton recognized one of the crooks sitting in the front row and suspected they’re preparing another heist. During intermission, Barton found the crooks robbing the box office. This time he defeated the crooks. The producer, unaware that Barton filled in for the drunken lead actor, believed Martin foiled the robbery. Barton’s performance during the play was a huge success, thus the play goes on tour across the country. Martin and Barton agree not to reveal that Bruce performed instead of Martin. While Martin went on tour, Barton stayed in the city to fight crime as Captain Valiant. He has no powers but is a good fighter and competent detective.
