Doctor Ted Lawrence arrives in the dying town of Banbury after hearing reports of a ghoul lurking at its cemetery. He intends to write a book on the ghoul. He finds the ghoul crying and digging in the cemetery. Lawrence approaches it, and it moves to attack him. However, Lawrence possesses superior strength and easily captures it. He takes the ghoul to his home laboratory where he’d previously studied gorillas. Lawrence tries to place the subdued ghoul in an empty gorilla cage but has an epileptic attack. Lawrence wakens inside the cage.
