Lee Brothers was a trapeze artist in the circus whose stage name was the Tumbler. When he went on vacation for three months, he dropped by to visit his circus trainer Socky. Socky told Lee to leave. Unknown to Lee, Socky was being threatened by robbers. Lee figured out what was up and interceded, but as the two tried to escape, Socky was hit by the gangster’s gunfire. Both Lee and Socky were declared dead, so Lee adopted the identity of John Dowe. He became a costumed crime-fighter. While he had no powers, the Tumbler was a skilled acrobat.
