Spencer Steel was an ace detective of the New York police force, who fought criminals such as Ratty Morone, Lucky Lucifer, Mouthpiece Moffitt, the Professor, and the Berge Gang, with the help of fellow officers Chief Jackson and Detective Mike McMurphy. Spencer was married to Nora Steel, who often helped him on his cases. They had a baby boy, Spencer Steel, Jr. who got kidnapped in Fight Comics #7, from 1940, in order to block his father from testifying against the Berge Gang. Spencer, Sr. however, was able to catch the crooks and rescue his son. This story was reprinted in Captain Flight #3, 1944, with the hero’s name changed to Spence Stark.
