Young Billy Wood received a jetpack sent to him by Rocketman and Rocketgirl. He used it to fight crime as Rocket Boy, and to search for his missing father. In his first adventure, Billy was kidnapped by the evil Black Pete. He was released by a sympathetic henchman and sent the jetpack to specifically help him fight the villain. He then searched the jungle for his father, and after fighting off natives, Rocket Boy found him held captive by Ed Stevens, who wanted to know the location of a diamond mine. Stevens released a lion to kill both Billy and his father, but Billy tied up the lion and saved his father’s life.
