John Janus was a double agent really working for S.P.I.D.E.R.. When given the Menthor helmet, he acquired mental powers with a side-effect: the helmet made him good, and the effect slowly became permanent. He was killed in action in issue 7 of T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents.
