“A white giant stood, haughty as a god, on a ledge that overhung the battleground. Almost as tall as the seven-foot Masai, but of a fine white skin tanned to copper by the African sun, he was young, but regal of bearing. His flame-red hair and beard waved in the breeze on the ridge while his eyes, seemingly filled with a savage scorn, roved over the erstwhile combatants. Naked he was save for a loincloth of leopard skin, and he was empty-handed but for the powerful slingshot that dangled idly from strong steady fingers.” The Leopard Man, Dick Walsh, was a bearded jungle lord who had trained leopards and wore a leopard skin loincloth. He traveled with his friends Basuta, war chief of the Nandi, and the young pygmy leader Nikki-Tikki. Together, the group escorted the boy Ken Hammond on adventures in the jungles as they tried to return him to his father.
