The body of the owner of a circus, Mr. Northcross, is found dead and mutilated, identified by his clothes. During that night’s performance, attended by Darrel Dane, a.k.a. Doll Man, the Flame interrupts Zeno the Strong Man as he lifts an elephant, scaring the beast with flames and crushing Zeno. The Flame escapes when Doll Man tries to stop him, so Doll Man joins the circus temporarily to replace Zeno. Doll Man uncovers the plot by Northcross, in the Flame costume, to hide his shady business deals with his employees by killing them. Northcross, as the Flame, falls to his death during their last fight.
