The Grim Reaper’s alter ego, Bill Norris, represented a group of citizens interested in a bond issue. However, the Chameleon appeared in the City of Eastport, spreading panic to a degree that the Mayor and the City Treasurer considered calling the vote off. The Grim Reaper came across the Chameleon ramming a trolley into a barn. They fought, but the villain escaped. At Wilson Square, the Chameleon threw two hand grenades into the Civic Auditorium. The Reaper, searching old newspaper accounts for the villain’s previous activities, was attacked by the Chameleon. After the Chameleon got away, the Reaper noted the fingerprints on his door knob. He hypothesized that the Chameleon could move around so quickly because he was secretly two people. In the past the fingerprints were always the same, but these new ones were different. The police identified them as belonging to the City Treasurer, Dorne. When the Grim Reaper broke into the Treasurer’s house, he discovered four Chameleons. The leader of the four Chameleon’s was the Treasurer, who had committed murder to cover up his embezzlement of Eastport’s bank funds and had kept track of the Reaper via access to police phone calls.
