Bill White was Detective, First Class, in the homicide division of a unnamed city’s homicide division. Investigating some brutal murders, he discovers they are being committed not by a human, but by a monster called Kemaha. Using a police woman named Ethel Vance for bait, he fails to apprehend the creature, leaving Ethel dead by its hands. Frustrated, he discovers some of the creature’s peculiar footprints and follows them. They lead to Bill’s apartment, where the Kemaha waits inside to take over his identity.
